Tornado Preparedness

Tornadoes are funnels of spinning air; winds associated with tornadoes can top 250 miles an hour and cause significant damage and possible loss of life.

If you have signed up for UMD Alerts, you will receive notification of a tornado warning via a text message sent to your phone and an email. A tornado warning means the radar or weather spotters have identified a tornado and you must seek shelter immediately. Stay sheltered for the duration specified in the UMD Alert.
